Tooth Whitening

Teeth become discolored by age, tobacco stains, use of certain foods, medications and beverages.
Home whitening is a gentle way to whiten your teeth. Impressions of your teeth are taken and sent to the dental laboratory for personalised trays to be constructed.
The dentist will demonstrate how to use whitening trays at home. The trays are worn for a minimum of an hour a day until the desired shade is achieved. Normal whitening time is between 7-10 days. In some cases it might take longer.
This method gives patients full control and flexibility to whiten their teeth in stages and also allows the patient to focus on particular teeth if they wish.
It is important to make you aware that whitening can cause sensitivity during the process but this is temporary.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin wafers of tooth coloured porcelain. They are “cemented” to the front surface of teeth to improve their cosmetic appearance. Many dentists use the analogy that dental veneers are for your teeth what false fingernails are for your hands.

Crowns / Bridges

To repair or improve the appearance of a tooth, it may be necessary to remove some of the tooth and replace it with a crown or veneer.

There is a wide variety of dental materials to choose from, these include Porcelain Bonded, Porcelain Jacket, Lava Crowns, Gold and E max.

After time, crowns that are made from a combination of metal fused to porcelain  (Porcelain Bonded) can begin to show dark gum lines that are not attractive.

All-porcelain or -ceramic crowns are the best choice for a natural cosmetic look. We will be happy to discuss the options available.

A bridge replaces a missing tooth or teeth. It is called a fixed bridge because it is not removable and is a more preferable option to a denture where suitable, A bridge is a structure, supported by teeth on either side of a space.

Implants or Dentures?

There’s no need to go through life with missing teeth. These days, many good alternatives are available. Dental implants and dentures are the most common options. Dentures are false teeth, and although their quality has improved, they’re not ideal for everyone. And if ill fitted, dentures might promote infection and decay in other teeth

That said, dentures may be the best choice for people whose gums and jaw are weak or unhealthy.

If you are missing teeth and your gums and jaw are healthy, you may benefit from dental implants, which are replacement teeth that are implanted surgically into the jawbone. With good oral hygiene, dental implants can last for 20 years or more without the need for replacement. Dental implants are often a popular choice for people who have only one or two teeth missing, but they can be an alternative to dentures if you have several missing teeth, two or more implants can serve as a base of support for several replacement teeth.

Valplast Flexible partial dentures are another choice of denture that we offer,  It was long thought that removable partial dentures had to be rigid to be effective. The innovation of the Valplast  Flexible Partial allows the restoration to adapt to the constant movement and flexibility in your mouth

Dental Implants: An Alternative to Dentures
If you have missing or damaged teeth, but your gums and jawbone are healthy and you are otherwise in good health, dental implants may be the right choice for you. Dental implants are more like natural teeth than dentures. A dental implant looks like a cylinder or screw and it serves as an artificial replacement for the root of a missing tooth. Implants are made of titanium or other material that won’t cause an adverse reaction when they are attached to the jawbone and gum tissue.
The process of getting a dental implant takes several months to complete, and it involves these three phases:

  • Placing the implant. First, you undergo surgery to have the implant placed in your jaw, where it is covered over with gum tissue and allowed to integrate into the jawbone for three to six months.
  • Attaching the post. Your dentist attaches a post to the implant and the gum tissue is allowed to grow up around it. In some cases, the implant and post are placed simultaneously. Whether or not they are placed at the same time, the combination implant and post serves as an anchor for the replacement tooth.
  • Crown attachment. Your dentist attaches a customized crown to the implant post.

The advantages to dental implants vs. dentures include a more natural ability to eat and speak, and there is no need to remove dentures or worry about denture repair. But it is important to see a dentist regularly to be sure your implants are in good condition and to follow a consistent oral care routine of twice-daily tooth brushing and daily flossing.
